Digital Communications: Teaching Your Students the Future of Business Communication
In a time where strong written and oral communication skills are at or near the top of what most organizations desire in an employee, it is our challenge as business educators to develop those skills in our students. When COVID-19 rocked the world, organizations began communicating with their clients and employees differently than they were used to, but these changes were much needed. Digital communication has evolved as a foundational skill for many careers today, since most people will be involved in some form of conceptualizing, producing, delivering and receiving these communications in their jobs. This session places a special emphasis on “digital” business communications, including a review of electronic communication etiquette. The presenter shares various strategies, curriculum resources and lesson ideas for teaching electronic communication etiquette; the three-step writing process for designing digital, social, and visual messages for business purposes; and how to analyze and understand media messages from both buyer/consumer and employer/business perspectives. Session attendees will also receive teaching strategies for blogging, microblogging, podcasts, and producing visuals.
